Journey To The West
by Sherie & Cassan

20 January 2007

We started our trip to #444, Upper Bukit Timah Road at about 1350 hours. Starting point was hougang bus interchange; destination was Wine Wise. A place where you can choose a wine, design a label for it, and bring the wine home on the same day. No unnecessary waiting needed... This is excited us waiting for the bus. =)

We were supposed to start the journey at 1330, but got distracted by food. We decided that we needed entertainment on the bus ride. So we bought... lots of food. And bubble tea.

About 45 minutes into the journey: getting bored, getting cranky, out of food, falling asleep......

FINALLY!!!!!! arrived at the clementi bus stop next to King Albert's Park. Have to walk 200m to another busstop along Bukit Timah road to catch our next bus..... Only to realise that if only we got off one stop earlier, we wouldn't have to walk at all. streetdirectory.com is not as accurate and perfect afterall. bah.

Sher bumped into her friend who was hiding near a bush. I forced her to go say hi.

Sher looks so cute here. hehe.
Transport broke down. Dismount and push.

Walked past an area that could pass off as haunted forest hiding a hugeass haunted mansion behind!!

***DINGDINGDING***
DESTINATION SPOTTED!!!!!!!!
(as described by Xinyu, it looks like a row of shophouses.. that's how we spotted it.)

Jay-walking.

and then we finally arrived. =)

It wasn't as great as i thought it would be. I believe it was much better when Xinyu went down in june.. Why was the experience bad? Because they were out of practically everything.

The wines they had left were of relatively poor quality (to me anyway. sher agrees too.). Low intensity on the nose and palate. I couldn't pick up the aroma at all and did not last long on the palate. Colour and clarity was alright. But taste wise, it actually reminded me of the unfinished wines that I tried in the vineyards at Hunter Valley.

If you have to go down to Wine Wise, i recommend the ports instead. Though still paling in comparison to other off-the-shelf brands, it is one of the better wines that they carry.

The only reason i will go down again, is if i desperately need a bottle printed fast (which i know i will), or if they have stock of the lychee dessert wine. Their reason for having no stock of many wines is that they opened 2 years ago and thus only have the not-so-good wines left.

Hello??? if you want to run a business you can't replenish the stock only when every single thing runs out right???

Service was alright though sher noticed that a certain member of the staff was much more courteous and friendly to the few angmos that came in compared to the asians (us).

By the way, the entire stretch of shop houses does not have any public toilet. So pee before you go. Wine wise only has a squatting toilet...

Which sher refused to use. HAHA. so... this is her, holding her pee in. =p

Finally, leaving with purchases in hand. Sher happy with her 3 bottles,

and me with my 2. Kim's birthday present..

Many thanks to sher and her bf for dropping me off in town!!! =)
